City tells province to take on bigger share of natural gas cost burden

The city of Thunder Bay is backing a Northern Ontario Municipal Association push to get the province to take on a larger share of the bill when it comes to expansion of natural gas.

The city of Thunder Bay is backing a Northern Ontario Municipal Association push to get the province to take on a larger share of the bill when it comes to expansion of natural gas.

The Ontario Energy Board is currently holding hearings on the future of gas line expansion.

The current system requires new customers who want gas lines to pay for those lines.

NOMA hopes to see that formula returned to the previous one, where ratepayers as a whole pay for gas line expansion.

NOMA is seeking support from municipalities throughout the region as it asks the OEB for those changes.

The motion passed unanimously. In addition to adding its name to NOMA's appeal, Thunder Bay will also contribute $1,000 to NOMA's legal fund as it seeks intervener status before the OEB.
