THUNDER BAY -- Life in Thunder Bay can be a tough adjustment for First Nations youth.

The city is now partnering with a local film company to create something to help ease that transition. The Walk a Mile Film project was a co-production between the city, Thunderstone Pictures and local community partners aimed at fostering understanding between Indigenous and non-indigenous people.

On Friday at city hall, local officials announced a sequel of sorts, called "The Welcome Project." It seeks to help acclimatize Aboriginal youth and families to life in Thunder Bay. Director Michelle Desrosier said film is a powerful medium that taps into Indigenous storytelling traditions.

The Welcome Project is looking for community partners, as well as Indigenous youth and community members interested in sharing their stories.
