THUNDER BAY — The City of Thunder Bay is embarking on a Remembrance Day Memorial Banner project to honour those who served the country’s military.

The project is a joint effort of the city through the Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5. The local legion branch will lead the effort and be keepers of the banners once they are completed.

“This banner project allows us to pay our respects and show our gratitude to all of the brave people of Thunder Bay who served,” said city manger John Collin, who comes from a military background, in a release issued on Tuesday.

“This is another way we can continue to honour them.”

Banner locations will include Memorial Avenue, the Waverley Park cenotaph, the cenotaph at city hall and at more locations as the program expands.

Anyone wanting to have their family honoured with a banner can apply directly through the Legion.

The deadline for requests is Monday, Sept. 15.
