City wins multiple awards for festivals and events

Awards include Ontario Municipality of the Year

THUNDER BAY -- Staff in the City of Thunder Bay's Recreation and Culture Division are celebrating some notable achievements.

Festivals and Events Ontario has presented the city with three awards based on activities undertaken during 2017.

Thunder Bay received the Municipality of the Year Award, for cities with populations between 50,000 and 150,000, in recognition of its work "to provide an atmosphere beneficial to successful festivals and events."

The other two awards are for Live on the Waterfront, a showcase for performing arts that ran through July and August.

It was named Best New Festival as well as a Top 100 event in Ontario.

Leah Prentice, the city's manager of cultural development and events, said the team is proud to be recognized for its work, adding "our events team and service partners dedicate themselves to providing high-quality events for our residents and visitors to enjoy."
