THUNDER BAY -- An information meeting is being held Wednesday for some 600 CUPE members who work for the city of Thunder Bay.

Local President Marie Dean says they have been without a contract since December, and if they were to strike it could have a wide spread impact.

“This will be effecting our inside and outside workers,” Dean said during an interview with CKPR Radio Friday. “Our animal control workers, roads, waste and recycling, city hall and Victoriaville and others.”

The meeting is not out of the ordinary. Dean explains that the meeting and a strike mandate vote are simply routine parts of the bargaining process.

The vote for a strike mandate will take place the following day Thursday.
