THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay residents can now weigh in on their satisfaction with the local quality of life, city services, priorities for the municipal government, and more as the city launched its bi-annual citizen satisfaction survey online Thursday.

The online version complements a scientifically valid phone survey of 500 residents conducted by public opinion firm Ipsos, which began randomly dialing local numbers last week.

The survey is available until April 23 at the city’s Get Involved website.

It’s the first time the survey has been conducted since 2019, with the pandemic causing a one-year delay.

Results from that year indicated a significant decline in residents’ satisfaction with quality of life and city services, particularly police, bylaw enforcement, snow removal, and road maintenance.

City staff say the survey plays a key role in city decision-making, and in particular will inform the city’s next strategic plan in 2023.

The results of the biannual survey will be presented to city council and released to the public in May.
