Clean-up volunteers alert police after discovering possible grenade

Thunder Bay police were dispatched to the Intercity area on Thursday morning and deemed the item discovered by a group of volunteers was not an explosive device.

Volunteers with the Children’s Aid Society alerted police after discovering a possible grenade on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020. Officers attended and quickly determined the device was not explosive.

THUNDER BAY - City police were alerted to the Intercity area on Thursday morning after a group of cleanup volunteers discovered a device resembling a grenade.

Officers attended the area and determined the device was not explosive, according to a Facebook post made by Thunder Bay Police Service.

“The volunteers were able to continue their cleanup with some peace of mind,” the post reads.

The volunteers were from the Children’s Aid Society, police said.
