The Ontario Junior Rangers lent their manpower to help clean up the Cascades Conservation Area Tuesday.

While most people clean up after themselves at the popular hiking and swimming spot, there is often garbage littered throughout the conservation area. Broken beer bottles are of particular concern to the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority.

Alcohol is not allowed in conservation areas, but bottles are often found on the rocks and near the water, causing a safety hazard for swimmers and dogs.

“Too many people enjoy this fantastic area and it’s a shame that they should have to put up with others’ disrespectful treatment of it,” said Ryne Gilliam, field operations supervisor.

The Cascades area is too large for the LRCA staff to clean on its own, so they called for the help of the Rangers.

“We thank the Junior Rangers for assisting us, and hope that people will continue to enjoy and respect our natural environment,” said Bill Bartley, LRCA chairman.
