Housing construction is on the rise as spring continues in Thunder Bay.
Figures released by Canada Mortgage and Housing shows that the construction of 10 multi-unit buildings began in May.
During the same time last year, there were no recorded housing starts for multiunit buildings. The 10-start May puts 2011’s construction way ahead of last year's pace for that category.
The news isn’t as positive for house construction. CMHC officials say ground broke on 22 houses last month, which is two less than was recorded in May 2010.
That means the numbers overall continue to be down from last year.
