CN Rail crews have begun working on the James Street Swing Bridge, but there’s still no word as to when it will be reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
CN spokeswoman Lindsey Fedchyshyn confirmed with CKPR Radio Thursday that some repairs are now being made to the pedestrian walkway. But, she added they are still waiting for a full report on the road portion of the bridge.
“There have been some reports back and forth, but no final report yet on what exactly needs to be done or when the work will be completed,” Fedchyshyn said.
The bridge was closed to rail, vehicle and pedestrian traffic after a major fire in the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Shortly after firefighters extinguished the blaze that evening, the area was ruled a crime scene and the cause of the fire was labelled suspicious.
That determination brought an investigator with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office to the city in the morning of Thursday, Oct. 31.
The bridge was handed back to CN Rail shortly after that, which led to the eventual re-opening of the bridge to rail traffic. But the bridge has remained closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic ever since.
