Confederation College is getting a little bit greener.

School officials say they hope the new Campus Environmental Action Plan will help reduce the institution's carbon footprint.

College president Pat Lang officially launched the campaign with a tree planting in front of the Shuniah building Thursday afternoon. The comprehensive plan further supports the college's previous efforts to lower their environmental impact.

Sustainability intern Courtney Korbyck said while target dates still need to be confirmed by the school's sustainability advisory committee, the college can expect to see a re-modeled recycling program, reduced paper usage and a beautified campus.

The plan will be reviewed every five years.

College officials hope to see the school eventually become carbon neutral.
