THUNDER BAY – The popularity of Pokemon GO has led to an official warning to motorists and cyclists around the college.

The newly-release location-bases augmented reality mobile game has players visit real locations to collect virtual Pokemon characters. The popularity of the game has led to some serious incidents involving distracted pedestrians.

While the mobile game isn’t officially available in Canada, it is accessible through third-party downloads.

In response to a noticeable increase of pedestrian traffic through the Confederation College campus, the college’s website posted an official notice to people travelling through campus property.

“With players being focused on their devices, we are advising motorists and cyclists to be particularly cautious,” the notice on the website reads. “Security indicates that there are hotspots of activity near major entrances to campus buildings.

“With Pokemon GO-related injuries being widely reported in the media, we are also reminding players from our College community to remain aware of their environment to avoid collisions and falls.”
