THUNDER BAY – The month-long strike at Ontario’s colleges will continue as faculty members voted to reject the final offer put forward by the College Employer Council.

Results of the vote, which began on Tuesday, were released Thursday morning with the majority of the striking educators opposing the offer put to them in a forced vote by the Ontario Labour Relations Board, following the recommendation of Ontario Public Service Employees Union leadership.

The nearly 12,000 professors, instructors, counsellors and librarians at Ontario’s 24 public colleges, including Confederation College in Thunder Bay, have been on the picket lines since Oct. 16.

A media release issued by Confederation College after the results of the vote were released publicly said the College Employer Council, which represents the institutions, intends to contact the provincially-appointed mediator.

The school said at this point it’s unknown when the strike will end or whether the provincial government will intervene.
