Collision leads to impaired driving charge

THUNDER BAY — A Kaministiquia man has been charged with multiple infractions after a collision Sunday on the outskirts of the city.

OPP were on patrol at 5 a.m. in Oliver-Paipoonge when they happened upon a single motor vehicle collision on Townline Road near John Street Road.

Officers questioned the driver and determined he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

After testing at the Thunder Bay detachment, the 29-year-old was charged with impaired driving, having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available, having care or control of a vehicle with liquor readily available, failure to produce proof of insurance, and failure to surrender a motor vehicle permit.

The accused was released from custody pending a court date next month.

On Friday, members of the Thunder Bay OPP detachment also charged a 19-year-old Nolalu man with impaired driving, driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available, driving a vehicle with liquor readily available, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol count over zero.

He was arrested after a traffic stop late Friday night on Highway 11/17 near Kakabeka Falls.

The man will appear in court next month.
