Council approved the eight-member committee at Monday night’s council meeting following in camera discussions.
The members will be responsible for fundraising and administering the disaster relief fund, which could be as much as $16 million. The city will have claim forms for the fund available at two public meetings on June 23.
Committee members were picked based on recommendations by council. There were also applicants that city council members reviewed.
The committee members include:
• Lynn Peterson
• Gloria Cyr
• Marv Detweiler
• Mary Lucas
• Wayne Fletcher
• Vince Mirabelli
• Sue Prodaniuk
• Beverly Ann Sabourin
Council also unanimously passed a resolution that will allow homeowners impacted by the flood to be exempted from late penalties normally charged on unpaid balances. The resolution would also give a credit of $207 for each residential property owners’ water account.
For homeowners not connected to the city’s sewer system, the amount would be $118.
This is a one-time offer from the city.
City infrastructure manager Darrell Matson also gave a general update on the Atlantic Avenue sewage plant at the meeting.
“We’re very happy to announce that as of quarter to six this evening the pumps that we were attempting to commission today have been successful,” Matson said.
“We now have two 500 horsepower motors driving these main sewage pumps and two 800 horsepower motors, which returns that particular station back to its 750 mega litre capacity.”
He added that they will have some big announcements to make in regards to the city’s water reduction strategy at Tuesday’s media conference.
