FORT FRANCES, Ont. -- Communities damaged by flooding from the Rainy River this spring are still looking at how to best use provincial relief dollars.
Last week the province announced $2.4 million in funding through the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program to help municipalities rebuild in wake of the historic flooding that took a hit on many key pieces of infrastructure.
In Fort Frances there was significant damage to their docks as well as to the water treatment and sewage plant that is shared with Couchiching First Nation.
Emo town officials said their water treatment plant sustained about $70,000 in damage.
The town of Rainy River took a significant blow, with the high water levels submerging much of the Government Dock as well as threatening the integrity of buildings and washing out roads.
Town officials said repairs will likely not start until 2015 and a state of emergency is likely to remain in place until those are well underway.
There were 10 communities in the area that declared states of emergency in June.
