A conference examining ways to improve the administration of justice in First Nation communities is being held this week.
The three-day NAN-wide Justice Summit, which launched Tuesday at the Valhalla Inn, is organized by the Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation and NAN with senior legal officials and First Nations leaders.
The summit will consist of a variety of seminars and workshops, focusing on representation on jury rolls, bail, fly-in-courts and traditional alternative dispute resolution.
Former Supreme Court justice Frank Iacobucci will address the summit on Wednesday to discuss First Nations representations on juries.
The summit is expected to generate a plan of action to be brought forward to the government.
