With construction season in full bloom city drivers should expect some delays around Thunder Bay.

Underground sewer and water replacement, along with new sidewalks and road resurfacing, is currently underway on Brodie Street near Donald Street.

There’s also Walsh Street between Leland Avenue and Beaver Hall Place, Rosslyn Road, Matthews Street, Balsam Street and Shuniah Street. City project engineer Rick Harms said while they try their best not to disrupt traffic, road closures are inevitable in some places.

"That does cause some aggravation to drivers but we ask that they abide by the construction signs posted and it is for the safety of the construction workers," Harms said.

New traffic signals will be going up at the Cumberland and Red River Road interstion soon too he added.

"That will involve some lane closures and temporary four way stops and some disruption to sidewalks in that area."

But the biggest is yet to come. In the next couple of weeks, Algoma Street from Bay Street to Pearl Street is expected to get its share of the $20 million budget for this year’s roads, sewer and water upgrades.

"that project will probably be one of the ones that is more disruptive to through traffic routes" said Harms.

So far the public has been very accommodating during the construction he added.
