THUNDER BAY – Construction of the new waterfront hotel is on track to be completed as scheduled, city officials believe.
City manager Norm Gale on Wednesday said it remains the city’s understanding the ReSolve Group, which is the project’s developer, remains on track for a late 2016 or early 2017 completion.
“The city continues to work with the developer and the city expects the development will proceed as originally planned,” he said.
“At this point today the timelines remain in place. The city’s expectation is the timelines will be met.”
Construction began last year on the 150-room hotel, located within Prince Arthur’s Landing. The four-star hotel, which will carry the Delta brand, will be eight storeys.
Work was expected to resume at the site on March 1.
Four years ago, the hotel was scheduled to open in 2014.
Those timelines eventually were pushed back with underground work ongoing throughout 2014 and construction of the hotel supposed to begin in February 2015.
Instead, construction of the superstructure was moved to September 2015.
ReSolve Group president Gisele MacDonald last year said Marriott International’s acquisition of Delta delayed the project by about three months.
Also last year Manshield Construction, which built the foundations, parkade and part of the superstructure, registered a $1.4 million lien against the ReSolve Group.
