A seven-year veteran of the Thunder Bay Police Service is facing an assault charge in court.
An investigation by the Greater Sudbury Police Service, called in to conduct an independent look at the complaint, determined the charges were warranted after an alleged assault against a 12-year-old youth took place Jan. 10 at a local youth hockey tournament at Neebing Arena.
Const. Steven Oster, who was off duty at the time of the alleged incident, will appear in court on March 19 to answer the charge of common assault.
Police would not comment further on the matter, stating the case is now before the courts.
Oster, 42, has not been suspended, but has been reassigned to administrative duties until the matter is resolved. If convicted, his future with the department would be decided by a Police Act hearing.
