Police say copper wire thieves came close to being fatally electrocuted before making off with $300 worth of wire.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers say they are investigating the theft of the scrap wire, which was removed from a facility on the Bombardier plant property over the weekend.
Police say the scrap wire was taken from a facility where a high voltage track is used to test subway cars. It appears that a suspect or suspects came close to contacting the third rail, which is a high voltage conductor near ground level.
Police are now asking that anyone with information about this theft contact police or Crime Stoppers.
The investigation is ongoing.
