THUNDER BAY – City council will be asked to put aside $25,000 a year for a catch-and-release program targeting some of the city's furriest residents.

The agenda for Monday's council meeting includes a report from administration, recommending the city fund a trap-neuter-and-return program for feral cats.

Animal Services has spent $12,000 on a pilot program that sees feral cats caught, neutered, and returned to the wild.

That pilot project saw a decline in both euthanized and impounded cats.

Meanwhile, there are also some proposed changes to the city's noise bylaws.

Thunder Bay currently employs bylaw enforcement officers only between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

If a resident complains of persistent noise outside of working hours, they're asked to keep a noise log, which is used to draft a notice to offenders.

Under the new proposed system, offenders would also receive a noise information package, which includes a record of complaints and a witness questionnaire.
