THUNDER BAY -- City council will look for ways to assist the Thunder Bay Boys and Girls Club Monday night.

The non-profit organization came before council during budget deliberations. The group revealed they owe nearly $40,000 in taxes.

The Boys and Girls Club previously enjoyed tax exempt status at its former location on McTavish Street. The non-profit organization was recently informed by MPAC that they no longer have that status at their new home on Windsor Street.

The city looked at the club's books after the plea for help. They found in excess of $300,000. That led Administration to recommend no financial assistance be given.

Councillor Iain Angus will call for a report at tonight’s meeting that explores possible funding options.

But there will only be a small amount of councillors in attendance at the meeting. Mayor Keith Hobbs along with four other councillors are in Toronto attending the Good Roads Conference.

That leaves just eight council members in Thunder Bay to make decisions on city business.
