THUNDERBAY -- A condo development project on the city’s north side will be the hot topic at tonight’s city council meeting.
The first building on the former Hillcrest high school football field is nearly complete. The owner of the property is applying to allow the building to house a nine-unit condo.
City staff say they have no objections to the proposal, which conforms to existing planning and zoning bylaws. Meanwhile, the former Hillcrest high school across the street is also up for discussion.
That site was converted into a commercial centre in 2011, with a focus on small businesses.
However the facility was sold in 2014.
The new ownership successfully requested council approve a proposed 77-unit condo last year.
Developers are now requesting the building be split into three separate condo facilities, of 78 units in total, due to market demand.
City staff are recommending approval for that project as well.
