THUNDER BAY -- City council will get a glimpse of how the 2012 budget is shaping up and provide some direction on next year's document.

The third quarter variance report will come forward when council meets for its regular scheduled meeting at city hall Monday evening.

The report shows that a number of departments are over budget . Over budget departments include the Superior North EMS, legal services, and transit.

The total overages sit at nearly $1.7-million but that is offset by roughly $850,000 in savings that have been found in other departments. The report does not include any costs related to the flood disaster.

Administration is still tallying those costs and is hoping they will be covered by insurance or the disaster relief program.
Council will also be asked if they want to continue with the Core Business Review that targets half-a-million dollars in annual savings.

Previous recommendations to close Municipal Golf Course and demolish three greenhouses at the Conservatory were voted against by council.

In other business, the city is being asked to maintain current EMS levels in the District.

Over the past year, there has been talk about closing some regional stations down.
