THUNDER BAY -- The city will review its annual tax arrears report, as well as hearing a pitch from Shaw Cable on city Wi-Fi, at tomorrow night's council meeting.

The city is owed more than $2.5 million in back taxes.

City staff say the number of properties in arrears is down, but the number is skewed by a small number of properties which owe large amounts of money.

The city's revenue division says only properties which have not had their taxes paid in three years are listed in their report.

Those which fall behind for a fourth year will be listed for tax sale.

In addition, Shaw Cable systems is preparing a deputation on municipal Wi-Fi at city council.

The telecom company says they're offering to install Wi-Fi at municipal facilities across Thunder Bay, at no cost to the city.

However, only existing Shaw customers would be permitted to use the service.
