THUNDER BAY – The Event Centre is back on the agenda in council chambers tonight.

City council voted to move ahead to Phase 5 of the project at its last meeting in March.

That decision is set to be ratified during tonight’s meeting. However, the city later learned that plans to use federal gas tax money on the project were rejected by the federal Ministry of Infrastructure.

Mayor Keith Hobbs says he plans to table a motion to seek out additional funding sources.

It's a move welcomed by some councillors, who don't see the project as dead just yet.

Council will also review a proposal that would stop the use of plastic bags for yard waste.

The city currently accepts yard waste in both paper and plastic bags. However, the report from administration says the switch would save money, as well as the planet.
