THUNDER BAY – City council could make a decision tonight that will have a major impact on the future of two roadways.
Council will receive a report on the next phase of the four laning of Golf Links Road. The city earmarked around $3.1 million for the project. However, the lowest bid presented to the city, is more than $600,000 over budget.
City staff say the additional costs include the cost of relocating traffic signals, and some Thunder Bay Hydro assets in the area.
In a report to council, engineers recommend that the repaving of North Cumberland Street be deferred, to free up money for Golf Links Road.
Council will also look at the future of the Thunder Bay Chill.
The soccer club wants to move out of Chapples Park, which has drainage problems, and into the Fort William Stadium on a permanent basis.
City staff have drafted a report outlining a facility use agreement with the club.
The report recommends the city proceed with that agreement.
