THUNDER BAY – Councilors will examine a proposed telecom tower on the city’s southside, while a university professor asks to make waves in Boulevard Lake at tonight’s city council meeting.
LU’s anthropology department used aerial drones to produce maps of the lake during a low water period last fall.
The resulting images show a ring of rocks near the Boulevard Lake dam.
The researchers now want to use sonar to get a better look, and are asking the city to waive its restriction on motorized boats in the lake temporarily so the researchers can conduct their survey.
Professor Scott Hamilton says it would only require slow boat trips across the lake.
Meanwhile, council will also review plans to install a telecommunications antenna at Loch Lomond.
The application would put a 120-foot structure on ski area property, near an upper ski lift station.
The city's approval is not needed, but city policy requires applicants to consult the community.
