THUNDER BAY -- City council will be looking at homelessness solutions and recreation plans when it meets at city hall tonight.
The Salvation Army is seeking city assistance as it starts work on a new shelter building.
Its current facility on Cumberland Street is a former hotel donated by the city.
Officials with the Salvation Army are prepared to argue that the building's maintenance costs are too steep and that the building does not meet accessibility standards.
The Salvation Army hopes to construct a new building to replace it, at a cost of around $10 million.
Officials with the organization say they have $5.7 million in funding ready, and expect to ask the city for funding help.
Meanwhile, the city's Recreation and Culture Master Plan will go before council for its first reading.
Council is not required to adopt the plan on the night, but staff recommend council vote on the matter in early 2017.
