THUNDER BAY – City council meets tonight for its last meeting of the month and two items are expected to dominate the agenda – the future of the waterfront and the second quarter budget report.
The waterfront master plan update is expected to draw interest as councillors review what the next 20 years may hold for Thunder Bay's lakeshore.
The three-part update will go over what can be done with respect to the Marina, Festival grounds, and Pool 6 area.
City officials say the update looks at the waterfront in broad strokes over two decades.
However, it also identifies some critical upgrades for the next five years.
Council will also get the latest budget variance report from administration.
The report says if no measures are taken the city will be about $1 million over budget by the end of the year.
City staff say they're confident their deficit control measures will be able to bring that number down.
