THUNDER BAY – Country on the Bay has been a hit yet again after starting off on Friday night.
David Allen, president of the Country on the Bay organizing committee, said the turnout was huge.
“We didn't know what was going to happen with ticket sales. They slowed down for a little bit but the ticket sales have picked up.”
Allen said the big draw to people is that it’s a big mix of country.
“We've got different years of country – a different mix of country music. Saturday's big headliners – that’s the biggest that have ever been in the area.”
Everybody wants to see Blake Shelton, Allen said, adding that people in the area wouldn’t be able to see him otherwise unless they travelled.
“We have a group of people that take care of getting artists here. One person in particular goes after the bands and deals with the agents. We kind of pick and choose who we have that's available for those prices in those times.”
Country on the Bay will have somewhere between 7,000 and 8,000 people per day in attendance.
Allen said the best bet for transportation for the rest of the weekend is their shuttles.
“Go into our site, you can see where the shuttle pick ups are. The shuttles get in and leave every 15 to 20 minutes and then you're not going to be in the lineup.
“We hear the lineups are really long, but unfortunately we only have so much parking here and it's hard to relay to the people that are sitting in the lines that there's no more parking,” he said.
Both the crowd and performers always have a great time at Country on the Bay, Allen said.
