Thunder Bay Public Library is moving its County Park branch.

But users won’t have far to go.

Library officials say the new location will stay within the confines of the County Fair Plaza, at a location situated near the mall’s front entrance.

“The library board approved the new seven-year lease with the mall at the last board meeting and is excited to begin transforming the new library space to meet the needs of the community,” said Carol Grieve, the TBPL’s board chairwoman, in a release.

In 2013 TBPL's head of adult services Barb Philp told tbnewswatch.com the library was going to move, but ruled out another location within the mall, stating only that it would remain in the area.

Mall management is expected to being the transformation of the new space early in 2015, with renovations slated to take several months.

The new library space is expected to open in the second half of the year, with a timeline promised once the schedule has been finalized.
The present County Park branch will remain operational until the new site is ready.

In a 2013 report to council recommending the move, TBPL library officials said they were leasing the present location for $104,000 annually.
