THUNDER BAY -- One couple is doing something that's never been done before.
They are travelling cross country with an electric car while towing a camping trailer.
This is all in an effort to raise awareness of sustainable energy and to promote electric cars.
It's one of the first Tesla Model X's in Canada and it's 100 percent electric.
That's one of the reasons why couple Silke Sommerfeld and Rolf Oetter are taking this journey to show that electric cars and sustainable energy are the way of the future.
They said it was never possible to drive an electric car cross country pulling a trailer as doing so cuts their range in half, but this new model X tesla has a 90 kWh battery providing over 400 kilometres of range.
They started their journey last month and although they did face some challenges while travelling through northwestern Ontario. The couple are travelling from Victoria B.C to Saint John’s Newfoundland.
They added that these electric cars by Tesla will be available in Canada in 2017.
The couple are also blogging their travels on Facebook.
