THUNDER BAY - A 35-year-old man arrested after another man was found dead in Thunder Bay's Neebing/McIntyre Floodway last year has been discharged from court, for lack of evidence.

Lawrence Peter Beardy was apprehended by police without incident about a week following the death of 38-year-old Clayton Chuck Mawakeesic.

Mawakeesic died from drowning after an alleged altercation while he was with a group of people on the shore of the floodway the evening of July 28, 2016.

The court discharged the accused man on Aug. 11 at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry stage.
