SIOUX LOOKOUT – The Northwestern Health Unit has announced one new confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Dryden/Red Lake region.

It’s the only active case in the region, which covers over a dozen communities as defined by the health unit.

Those include Balmertown, Cochenour, Dryden, Eagle Lake 27, Eagle River, Ear Falls, Eton-Rugby, Ignace, Machin, Madsen, Mckenzie Island, Melgund, Minnitaki, Oxdrift, Red Lake, Vermilion Bay, Wabauskang 21, Wabigoon, and Wabigoon Lake 27.

Anyone identified as a contact for the case will be contacted directly, the health unit stated in an announcement posted to social media Saturday evening.

As of Friday, there were nine active cases in the health unit’s territory, which covers the Rainy River District and part of the Kenora District.

Eight of those were located in the Kenora region, which accounts for nearly half of the health unit’s total of 125 positive cases since the pandemic began.

The remaining active case was located in the Sioux Lookout region.
