GERALDTON, Ont. – A COVID-19 outbreak at the John Owen Evans long-term care home in Geraldton has been declared over, two weeks after a staff member first tested positive.
No additional staff or residents tested positive in the 14 days since that staff member worked their last shift, allowing the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to declare it over, according to provincial guidelines.
That result was confirmed through follow-up surveillance testing of residents and staff, the health unit said in a release Friday.
The outbreak at the 26-bed facility was first announced on Dec. 4
An outbreak must be declared at a long-term care facility in the case of a single positive test of a staff person or resident. The declaration requires the home to implement emergency management measures including increased infection and control procedures.
