THUNDER BAY – An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.

The outbreak impacts the male side of the prison, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced in a release Tuesday. The agency did not disclose further details such as the number of cases involved or the impact to the facility.

The health unit said it is working with the Ministry of the Solicitor General to manage the outbreak.

The prison has seen several previous outbreaks, with the most recent in March believed to involve dozens of inmates and staff.

TBnewswatch has reached out to the Solicitor General’s office for further details.

The health unit also reported a new COVID-19 outbreak at the Hogarth Riverview Manor long-term care home Tuesday, impacting the 4 South (Lilac) area.
