THUNDER BAY – An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Pioneer Ridge long-term care home.
The outbreak affects the city-operated home’s Plaza 1 area, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported Thursday.
Two residents in that area tested positive Thursday after experiencing symptoms, said administrator Lee Mesic. Neither have so far required additional medical care.
While the outbreak is declared, residents with symptoms will be required to isolate, and general visitors will not be permitted.
Another outbreak declared in the home's Plaza 2 area on April 4 could be declared over as soon as Friday, she said.
In a statement, the health unit said it had initiated a thorough assessment of the situation, and that significant public health measures were already in place prior to the outbreak.
