THUNDER BAY – A 23-year-old man faces a variety of charges after a north-side crash spree in May.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to three crashes in the Grandview Mall area on May 10, all of which took place within minutes of one another.
The first reported crash took place on Van Norman Street and involved a black Nissan sedan driven by the 23-year-old accused. The accused crashed into a white Land Rover driven by a 54-year-old woman.
The accused fled the scene and moments later crashed into a Ford Fiesta at Grandview Mall.
That crash caused extensive damage, but still the accused drove off from the scene.
The third crash took place at the corner of Van Norman and Duke Streets. The accused struck a black Honda Civic on the front right side.
All three crashes took place between 8:50 p.m. and 8:56 p.m.
The accused was being attended to by EMS paramedics when Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrived at the scene of the third crash.
The accused provided his health card and surrendered his driver’s license to the investigating officer.
At the time, officers did not have the information they needed to connect the Duke Street crash with the other two nearby crashes.
The accused bolted from the scene, running between two houses before hopping a fence.
Police learned that the accused was on parole.
The accused eventually turned himself into police on advice from his attorney.
The accused has been charged with:
• Section 252 Criminal Code of Canada - Fail to Stop at Scene of Collision X2
• Section 249 Criminal Code of Canada - Dangerous Driving X3
The man has been released on an Undertaking and will be appearing in court June 21 2016
