THUNDER BAY – The 61-year-old man found with vital signs absent after crashing his car last week is alive in hospital, with what is described as a challenging yet promising recovery ahead.

The Thunder Bay Police Service on Tuesday announced they concluded their investigation into the collision at the intersection McKenzie and Robertson Streets, determining the incident was caused by a medical event.

The vehicle was observed driving into a fence and street sign at a low speed on Thursday afternoon, with the driver appearing to be unconscious.

Witnesses to the crash rushed to provide aid, administering CPR to the man until paramedics arrived.

Police credit the CPR for saving the man’s life.
