Crew member falls overboard from cargo ship

An investigation has been launched regarding the incident at the city's port.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating after a person fell overboard the cargo vessel Kathy McKeil in the Thunder Bay port on July 3, 2025.

THUNDER BAY — An investigation is being launched after a person fell overboard from a cargo ship. 

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) stated that a team of investigators is being sent to the Port of Thunder Bay to investigate the incident in which a crew member fell overboard from the cargo vessel Kathy McKeil. The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.

In an email to the TSB, they were only able to confirm that the incident occurred on Thursday. 

An official with the Port Authority of Thunder Bay confirmed the crew member did not sustain any serious injury.
