THUNDER BAY – Crime Stoppers is looking for financial support to continue to play a pivotal role in solving area crimes.

Thunder Bay and District Crime Stoppers kicked off their 2016 leap year raffle Friday with a media conference held at Performance Kia.
The top prize in this year’s raffle is a grand prize package valued at $31,000 which includes an Artic Cat all-terrain vehicle, snow mobile and trailer. Other prizes include a one-week stay at Amberlite Resort, $1,000 cash and a $500 gas card.

Jeff Prouse, chair of executive committee of Thunder Bay and District Crime Stoppers, said proceeds will go towards hosting the 2017 Ontario Crime Stoppers assembly as well as sustaining programs and offering rewards for tips that help solve crimes.

“Crime Stoppers is run by a civilian board of members. We have a board of directors and we work with the police. We have two police coordinators – we have an OPP coordinator and a city police coordinator – and we work together,” Prouse said.

“We make the decisions on which tips are paid out and do advertising and different things to get the word out so people know how to call Crime Stoppers.”

There are 5,000 tickets available. Each ticket is $20 and are sold at 25 locations throughout the city and district.

The draw will be held on Feb. 29, 2016.
