THUNDER BAY - Charges against a woman who was arrested in connection to a fire that resulted in the death of 30-year-old man have been withdrawn.

Tracey Mawakeesick, 48, was first charged with criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm following a fire at a townhouse on Trillium Way on Oct. 15, 2018.

When Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews arrived, flames and smoke were visible coming from the residence. A woman was reported to have jumped from a second-story window.

The fire was contained in the kitchen and fire crews discovered the body of 30-year-old, Kyle Stoney. A 23-year-old woman was also sent to hospital with serious injuries.

In February, the Crown withdrew the charges of criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm, as well charges of breach of recognizance and breach of probation against Mawakeesick.
