THUNDER BAY – The fraud case against the former chair of the Christmas Cheer Fund appears to be heading toward a resolution.

Linda Gambee, who faces a count of fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust had an appearance Tuesday morning at the Thunder Bay Courthouse. She was not present in the court.

Instead, she was represented by lawyer Gil Labine who told the court that he and Crown attorney Andrew Sadler are working toward bringing the case to an end.

Labine told the court he has to provide receipts to the court to determine the amount of restitution that must be paid. The Crown alleges Gambee is responsible for $22,000.

He also said Gambee needs time to determine how the amount will be paid.

The Thunder Bay Police Service received a complaint in January about discrepancies about the organization’s finances and the Economic Crimes Unit launched an investigation.

Gambee, who had resigned from the position in October 2013 after a dispute with the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition board, was arrested in February.

She is also currently engaged in a $350,000 lawsuit against the Royal Canadian Legion in Kakabeka for injuries suffered when she fell off wooden stairs while cleaning the Legion’s food truck in June 2012.

The next court date for the criminal case has been scheduled for Feb. 6.

Despite Tuesday’s court proceedings, none of the charges against Gambee have been proven.
