Thunder Bay tourism officials are searching for other cruise ships to visit the city next summer to fill a void left by the services of the MV Clelia II.
This will be the last year that cruise ship docks in Thunder Bay. The 100-passenger vessel was recently sold to a new management company and will be repositioned in Australia and New Zealand at the end of the summer. This is the second year the ship has been touring the Great Lakes and bringing visitors from around the world to the city.
It arrived for the first time this year Friday morning. City Tourism Manager, Paul Pepe said each time the Clelia II docks in Thunder Bay, it brings an estimated $50,000 to the local economy.
Pepe added that the city is already working to attract new ships to the Pool 6 site next year to make up for the loss.
The Clelia II will arrive in Thunder Bay eight more times this summer before it departs for the land down under.
