With the holiday season behind us for another year, it's time to get rid of those Christmas trees.
But not by kicking them to the curb.
The city's waste diversion co-ordinator, Jason Sherband, said between 70-to-80 metric tons of Christmas trees are disposed of annually following the holidays.
He added that the 10 tree drop-off sites across the city are being well-used this year. And while most people are taking advantage of the environmentally-friendly way to get rid of the trees, some people are still leaving them on the curbs.
But even if the trees are being placed on the curbside, they will not be picked up with the regular garbage.
Sherband said all stands, ornaments, tinsel, and tree bags must be removed before trees are brought to the chipping sites.
The drop-off areas will be open until January 11th.
