THUNDER BAY -- A popular recreational trail will be closed all week as city workers perform maintenance on the Current River Dam.

The aging dam has been around since the early 1950s. Gerald Luty, the supervisor of Sewer and Water on the north side of the city, says the dam is starting to become more trouble then it's worth.

Starting Monday, access across the structure will be closed every day until Friday, as city workers hoist and repair the wooden beams.

The walkway will be closed this week between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30, and Luty adds that the dam is scheduled to be fully refurbished within two years time.
