DRYDEN, Ont.—Ontario Provincial Police laid a dozen separate charges against an Edmonton man following an incident over the holiday weekend that started in the Kenora area and ended east of Ignace.

According to the OPP, they initially received a traffic complaint on Good Friday concerning a vehicle being driven unsafely and at high speed on Highway 17.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Officers tried on two occasions to stop the eastbound vehicle by laying down spike belts in the Dryden and Ignace areas.

Police eventually found the vehicle parked on the shoulder about 65 km east of Ignace. They were able to locate the driver, a news release said, "with the assistance of several OPP detachments and other OPP resources."

Charges against the 35-year-old suspect include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, possession of stolen property, driving while under suspension, racing, failure to comply with a court undertaking, and several other infractions.

He was held in custody pending a court appearance.
