THUNDER BAY – City police arrested a 57-year-old local man for impaired driving after police received multiple complaints about an erratic driver.

Police, in a release issued Friday morning, say multiple witnesses observed a man traveling at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic on West Arthur Street Wednesday around 2 p.m.

An off-duty officer arrested the man and was assisted by other citizens until a patrol officer arrived at the location of Mountdale Avenue and Arthur Street.

The 57-year-old driver has been charged with operating while impaired, operating with over 80 milligrams of alcohol and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. His vehicle was towed.

The man was later released on a promise to appear with a future court date.
